The Amsterdam taxi industry promises improvement in tackling discrimination after an incident last year during Pride Amsterdam. A taxi driver then refused to bring drag queen and Pride Ambassador Jennifer Hopelezz.

The Amsterdam Authorized Taxi Organizations (TTOs), Uber, ViaVan and Royal Dutch Transport have signed a declaration of intent together with the municipality and the Discrimination Center for the Amsterdam Region to combat discrimination.

The statement was made in response to an incident last year during Pride Amsterdam. A taxi driver then refused to bring drag queen and Pride Ambassador Jennifer Hopelezz.

The statement contains three measures. For example, from now on drivers must always be held to account for discrimination, appropriate measures must be taken to identify discrimination and someone has been appointed within all parties who have signed the declaration to increase awareness among drivers.

Jennifer Hopezz indicates himself to be happy with the declaration of intent.

“Unfortunately, this was not an isolated incident but a daily reality for drags, fetishists, transgender people and anyone who stands out, causing enormous anger in the LGBTQ + community. I am happy that this will eventually lead to something positive and hopefully ensure that taxis in Amsterdam are safe for all residents of this city. ”
