The version of the retro model was a Final Edition of which 5.961 were made. The last model that was made enters the museum today. For the Volkswagen factory in Puebla, Mexico, this is the definitive end of the Beetle.

In 1997 Volkswagen released a retro version: the New Beetle, which is especially popular in the US. The New Beetle is technically based on the Golf, but its design is a nod to the classic. The classic model already went out of production years ago, but now the retro model Beetle must also believe it.

Adolf Hitler was the one who initiated the Beetle

Perhaps not every Beetle enthusiast will realize it, but Adolf Hitler was the one who founded the illustrious Volkswagen. Long before the Second World War, he set his sights on a real 'Volkswagen' and he conveniently used it for his propaganda.

Germany suffered from a deep economic crisis in the XNUMXs, but Hitler promised the people a bright future in which each family had their own car. Before that, he had engineer Ferdinand Porsche develop the Kraft Durch Freude (KDF) car, which we know today as the Beetle.

The New York Times came up with the name.

The name was coined by a New York Times journalist who thought the car resembled the insect with its curious shapes. More than 21 million were made at the time, making it one of the world's best-selling cars with the Ford T and Toyota Corolla.
