Passenger transport systems are actually complex logistics systems. Only people, vulnerable people often, are transported here and there are much higher requirements than most packages.

Many of these systems are implemented on behalf of municipalities and health insurers. There is a lot of price pressure on the systems because they constantly have to work with smaller budgets. As a result, many companies in this sector have collapsed in recent years.

Higher rates are an illusion in the short term, the situation is not ripe for that now. So something else has to be found to be able to work more efficiently and, above all, of higher quality.

Although there is great skepticism in the sector, especially among medium-sized companies, there is only one thing to do: make maximum use of the rapidly developing opportunities in the field of information technology. Using artificial intelligence, self-learning systems, internet of things and big data.

Systems that plan or help with planning are now also used, but there are so many limitations to them that without human 'finishers' in the planning area, it is impossible. People with experience who make automatic schedules 'practical'. Skilled and committed people, but usually they only intervene when there are already major problems. And because of the hectic pace, it is difficult to keep an overview with all the consequences for vulnerable users.

But we now have the technology to bring automatic scheduling to the level we need.

Why? Simply because we can now process enormous amounts of data in a short time.

Because we can create real intelligence with IT.

Because the systems can learn from yesterday, last week, last month and last year.

Because systems detect and repair errors of their own.

Because systems have the intelligence to learn for themselves with data from other sources outside of transport.

Because the systems are able to record behavior of vulnerable users, learn from it and take it into account at an individual level.

Because the constant communication with the environment, and not just the vehicles in the field, ensures that nothing is overlooked.

A utopia? No, not anymore. Various companies are working on these systems because they see opportunities in this relatively conservative market. It is really coming and the development is very fast.

These systems are not cheap. They are even prohibitively expensive for small businesses. But the IT industry knows this and will come up with solutions where intelligence is delivered through interaction between the business software and intelligent planner. Pay per use in any form will become possible so that both large companies and self-employed people without employees can use it. For both passenger transport and logistics packages.

And finally, the great thing is that in this industry efficiency and quality are two sides of the same coin. Not only the companies will have the benefits, but also the clients and the (vulnerable) users. And everyone is waiting for that!
