Mobility as a Service (MaaS) focuses on data and multimodality. Does MaaS offer a solution to get people moving more sustainably? Geert goes in a special series of interviews Kloppenburg together with Carin ten Hage looking for the magic around MaaS. The first guest was Jeroen Kok, known for his public transport chip card, among other things.

MaaS threatens to become an attack on democracy.

“In the beginning, when the Internet was launched, the world suddenly looked very different for many companies. A small player could participate in a global economy with enthusiasm and in a very accessible way. Barely 15 years later, the Internet is in the hands of a number of major global players and an enormous concentration has taken place. As a player you have to be very big on that same platform. It has therefore turned from a very open and accessible monopoly", Says Jeroen Kok.

Jeroen Kok fears that when the world will become like this within the MaaS mobility, one has to worry. Accessibility will only decrease and not improve. In a few years, we will have three more mobility providers in the world. Then there is nothing left to choose democratically.

“The current hype around Mobility as a Service (MaaS) is a so-called solution without there being a real problem”, says entrepreneur Jacco lammers which works together with organizations, governments and users in a number of regions to improve accessibility.

Özcan Akyol conducts research at MaaS lab in Scheveningen.

We closely follow MaaS data and providers of services and of course we have it high on the agenda during the next Pitane Mobility user day on 20 September 2019 in Scheveningen at the Carlton Beach Hotel. The KNV MaaS lab focuses on bringing all market parties together. Sonila Metushi and Arjan Vaandrager of the Royal Dutch Transport organize information meetings on a regular basis and are present at our meeting.

During the Pitane Mobility user day in Scheveningen, Özcan Akyol (@OzcanAkyol) will talk to our guests and investigate whether Mobility as a Service (MaaS) is a 'hype' or a so-called solution without there being a real problem.

Özcan (Eus) will write the following Boekenweekessay. It is not entirely coincidental that the theme of the coming book week suits him perfectly: Rebels and cross-thinkers.

In addition to his literary work, he is a regular columnist for the Algemeen Dagblad, de Stentor, Tubantia, De Gelderlander, Brabants Dagblad, Eindhovens Dagblad, PZC, BN / De Stem, the VARA guide, Nieuwe Revu, Helden and 90 Minutes. Eus regularly joins talk shows such as Jinek, Pauw and De Wereld Draait Door.
