Three months after the first electric sub-scooter appeared in Ostend, that sub-scooter has become a hugely popular mobility solution in the coastal city. This announces the first ships, Björn Anseeuw (N-VA), competent for mobility.

“With more than 100.000 journeys and more than 20.000 new users, the means of transport is already fully established in our city in a short time. There are no complaints about nuisance. Due to the increasing demand, we now allow 750 instead of 500 steps in the city. ”

The city council is working hard on a new mobility plan in which so-called combination mobility is central, according to Timmy Van Assche in the Latest News. 180.000 km, or 1,8 km per trip. That is what has been 'stripped off' in Ostend in the past three months.

“Every means of transport has its place in the city. With combi-mobility we want to give people the opportunity to get from point A to point B in a safe way with a combination of different modes of transport. This can be done, for example, by encouraging users of the electric scooter to use that scooter in combination with public transport. In this way we ensure safe and smooth traffic to, from and in the city ”, the ships concluded.

It is also striking that according to the ships there are no complaints about annoying steps. "We have clear regulations that ensure that the landlord of the scooters must do everything to avoid possible nuisance," says Anseeuw. “The use of the steps is closely monitored every day. In this way we ensure that sufficient, but never too many steps are placed in the city. But above all it is the merit of the Ostend who handles it very wisely.

In this way they make Ostend an exemplary city. There are no situations in Ostend, such as in Roeselare, where a project with steps was stopped because they were the target of vandalism, among other things.
