At more and more European airports, a taxi to the center is more expensive than the price of an airline ticket. This is the conclusion of a study by Vliegveldinfo.nl and Airmundo.com, which charted the taxi costs for the fifty busiest European airports.
Of course you can also travel by train, but a taxi ride from the airports in London (Luton, Stansted and Gatwick) and Milan (Bergamo and Malpensa) costs between € 90 and € 105. This makes it the five most expensive airports to take an airport taxi. They are also airports that are widely used by low cost airlines such as Ryanair and Wizz Air, with which you can sometimes fly to London for less than € 15.
Fixed prices
With an average of € 45 for a taxi ride to the center of Amsterdam, Schiphol is ranked thirteen in the top fifty. Vienna also scores quite high with an average of € 43. That is just above the average of € 40. Bucharest and Warsaw are among the cheapest airports. There you can get to the city by taxi for about ten euros, roughly a tenth of the price in London and Milan.
Although the distance to the center is much shorter in these cities than in Milan and London, the costs per kilometer are more than twice as low. The cheapest taxi per kilometer can be found in Kiev, where you can take a ride of 16 kilometers for converted € 35. In Geneva you pay € 36 for six kilometers.
