Uber has one today license for London which was extended for only two months. That is the shortest period that Transport for London (TfL) has ever delivered. The application for one 'standard'  rental car license - limited to five years - was denied, it said Taxi Times / Magazine Passenger transport.

The extension was delivered under additional conditions

"Uber London Ltd has been granted a two-month license for a car rental company to enable the company to provide additional information and investigate it before considering a possible additional license application", said a spokesperson for TfL.

The two-month extension is subject to additional conditions to ensure passenger safety, including rides, insurance and driver document assessments. The terms of the 15-month license granted by the magistrates last year remain in effect. For example, Uber is required to have an independently verified report prepared every six months.

It is the second time in two years TfL has rejected Uber's application for a full license. In September 2017, at the end of its first five-year admission period, TfL said Uber was not an “exemplary and appropriate” company, indicating concerns about passenger safety. On appeal, Uber was granted a provisional license with a term of 15 months.

Mayor Sadiq Khan said he supports TfL's decision.

"I am fully aware that in London, no matter how powerful and how tall you are, you have to follow the rules."
