KLM measures the temperature of passengers before departure and examines the possibilities to extend the checking of the body temperature of the travelers traveling with this company. This could happen both at Schiphol and at the foreign airports that KLM still flies to.

The measure is intended to increase the safety of KLM employees. The services on board have also been adjusted. Currently, at the request of the authorities of South Korea and Singapore, passengers are already checked for fever before being allowed to board. People wishing to travel to Canada are physically observed and must complete a questionnaire before they can board.

KLM cabin crew are concerned about the corona virus, especially for flights to and from New York, the epicenter of the pandemic. This causes a lot of unrest. KLM wants passenger temperature controls.

Monday, consultations were held on the safety of workers by KLM and two cabin crew unions, VNC and FNV Cabin. Contact with passengers on board is avoided as much as possible, but the rule of keeping a distance of 1,5 meters cannot be strictly adhered to, as this falls under the 'vital infrastructure' designated by the government. The sector now relies on the freedom to deviate from that rule. VNC advocates stopping flights from New York.

Director Chris van Elswijk: “We want KLM to take its responsibility and guarantee a distance of one and a half meters. As a union, we cannot demand that KLM stop New York, but that KLM guarantee our safety. ”
