From calculations by the Knowledge Institute for Mobility Policy (KiM) shows that the effect of less traffic on the road due to the corona virus may be noticeable for years to come. Since March, freight traffic has decreased by 7 or 8 percent, the underlying road network has fallen by 32 percent. Together this comes down to a 39 percent drop in traffic on the road.

The question is, of course, how long the corona measures will last in our country. If the measures continue to last until mid-May, then KiM's traffic intensity decline will be about 2020 percent lower over the whole of 10, according to KiM, and the corona measures will last another half year than KiM expects to fall by 20 percent. Due to the economic downturn, KiM expects that it may take until after 2025 for the level of traffic to return to the level of 2019.

The last 2 weeks it seems a bit busier on the Dutch roads, according to the data from the N.D.W. (National Road Traffic Data Database). The morning and evening rush hour is still a huge difference in terms of traffic on the road. In the afternoon there is a bit more traffic on the road. There is now 50 percent less traffic than usual in the morning rush hour and 60 percent less traffic than usual in the evening rush hour. The NDW has hardly counted traffic jams for weeks.
