We will not all be able to take the train at the same time. According to President-Director of NS Roger van Boxtel, it is now a major paradox. For example, NS will take measures if more trains start running again next week, and mouth masks are being considered. It is strange that we are now calling to avoid public transport as much as possible.

'one and a half meters'policy is not feasible

We will soon not all be able to get on the road in the car, then everything will not go very well, so as society slowly becomes more active, we will also have to think about a different policy. Of course it cannot last. It 'one and a half meters'policy is not feasible within public transport, because then you would have to shut down all public transport, including buses, metro and trains. When society starts to slow down, we will have to think about other policies and perhaps also about the use of mouth masks.

“I am also very concerned about the money. We pay fees for driving on the main rail network and our people, but we have no income. We have already calculated that we will have a deficit of one billion at the end of the year. And for that, NS also needs the cabinet, ”says Roger van Boxtel.

Normally, 1,3 million travelers travel by train per day. Now that share has fallen to 7 percent (less than 100.000 travelers) per day. The NS runs a so-called basic timetable. This actually means that there are only a few intercity trains and only sprinters, once every half hour on average.
