People's travel behavior in times of corona has changed, in recent weeks there have been almost no mobility problems. The schools were closed and many people work from home. It is very quiet on the roads and also in public transport. The number of travelers using public transport in the province of Utrecht has fallen to 10 percent. Road traffic in this province has fallen by about a quarter.

The province of Utrecht is investigating the effect on the travel behavior of the inhabitants in times of corona. They want to gain insight into the consequences of the corona measures on public transport and traffic. Utrecht wants to know what the travel behavior of the inhabitants was before, during and after the corona crisis. They go through one investigation ask the inhabitants of Utrecht what their experience is with working from home and studying at home.

Consultancy and research agency Moventem and an internal researcher will collect this data. Utrecht has been working for some time to make working from home attractive, in order to relieve public transport, the environment and the roads in the province of Utrecht. They also conduct research into the safety of public transport with regard to the corona virus.

U-OV and Syntus Utrecht want to see together how they can make travelers travel safely by public transport after the corona crisis. That is why questions are also asked in the survey about this topic. They are curious about the opinion of the travelers themselves about the safe use of public transport. NS is currently investigating whether they can set up a registration service to allow passengers to register in advance for a journey. This is to prevent overcrowded trains and to guarantee the safety of passengers.
