In the long term, smart charging plazas will be built in 45 places in the Netherlands. State Secretary of Infrastructure and Water Management Stientje van Veldhoven opened one of the first smart loading squares in Culemborg this week. Since last year, this square has been able to charge electric cars through 784 solar panels on the roof. The loading square is operated and set up by local residents. The 45 loading square projects are used to further develop the techniques of smart loading and return delivery.

Neighborhood resident and project leader Arjen Schamhart: “Three years ago we had a plan for generating our own electricity above the parking lot with a loading square underneath. We also wanted to make electric driving accessible to everyone by using electric shared cars. Smart charging has been added this year. Today the app is finished so it all works. Investors immediately benefit from the return. Both in the wallet and through less view of the street and lower consumption of fossil fuel. ”

Now a Smart Charging Square app has been developed by Stekker.app that can be used to control a smart charging station. The app has been developed for electric drivers to indicate how full the battery should be and when the car should be charged. Based on this entered data, the app determines how fast to load and when. The app controls the smart charging station. A smart charging station is smart because they can supply power back and because they can supply variable power. There are several smart charging stations on a smart charging square so that grid connections can be used more efficiently. Power is better distributed among the charging points

According to Van Veldhoven: “From now on, the Netherlands can not only charge green, but also charge smartly. And that is good news. Smart charging makes electric driving even more interesting. It is custom loading. You decide when and how full your battery should be charged. And also when or at what price you purchase electricity or supply it back to the grid. It is therefore good for your own wallet, for a better balance of the electricity network and for the use of more green energy. Smart charging has a lot of potential. ”
