The ANVR travel dome and the Dutch Disability Care Association (VGN) are pleased with the 'safe' stamp that RIVM has awarded to the 'Customized Holidays Guide'. Many Dutch people still see the possibility of traveling on the eve of the summer holidays, now that many European destinations are open again and can be booked and traveled to your heart's content. During the corona crisis, many became aware of the importance of social contact and undertaking activities together. And this also applies to travelers with a disability or who need some extra care.

Frank Oostdam, chairman ANVR: 'This guide with Covid-19 measures has been developed by the specialized travel organizations affiliated with us, together with the Association of Disabled People in the Netherlands. The ANVR also offers a platform for travel organizations that specifically focus on adapted holidays. In the Netherlands, these travel organizations organize, among other things, group holidays and guest weeks, especially for people with a disability who need intensive supervision and / or care. '

In the Netherlands it is estimated that more than 2 million people with a physical or mental disability. And as a result of the aging population, the group of people who need guidance and / or care during their holiday is growing steadily.

'Holidays and leisure activities naturally prevent social isolation and contribute to physical and mental independence, but also expand the living environment of people with disabilities and offer them new experiences. We see that it also gives parents and caregivers a breath of fresh air, because the care is temporarily taken over, 'says Johan van Ruijven of the Association for Handicapped Care Netherlands. 'But of course corona rules also apply here, although it is practically not always feasible to keep 1,5 m away. After all, helping with personal care or providing care does not always work remotely and requires contact. '

From 1 July, contact professions in holiday and leisure activities may also be reinstated. During the adjusted holidays, the general measures of RIVM remain the starting point. That is why ANVR and VGN are pleased that this manual has been given the designation 'safe'. Numerous measures are described herein, such as wearing a mouth mask during transport, hygiene measures and health checks. This ensures that people with disabilities can safely return during the trip, stay and activities.
