The motorcycle industry has been dealing with negative effects of the crisis caused by the Covid-19 virus in recent months. The economic consequences of the necessary measures imposed by the Government are beginning to become visible. Nevertheless, an increase in sales of new motorcycles (+ 6,94% *) can be noted again in May and the sale of used cars is even better (+ 30,2% *). However, those figures fall far short of the striking increase in the number of rental days via the MotoShare platform. Despite the lock-down, an increase of no less than 86% was achieved in the first quarter compared to Q1-2019.

The nice weather in the second quarter tempted even more drivers to rent a motorcycle. Until the beginning of June, the curve rose to no less than 111% compared to the same period last year. Due to the far-reaching measures in public transport, commuting on two wheels has become a lot more popular and, in contrast to most countries around us, it was permitted to drive a motorbike in the Netherlands in the past period. Many riders took the opportunity to break through the grind of sitting at home and get on the bike during the 'intelligent lock-down'.

Analyzes indicate that the growth is caused by a number of factors including: the need to escape sitting at home and the large number of sunny days. An important factor for the significant increase is the addition of motorcycle dealers to the sharing platform. For the latter (B2C) group, the increased rental through the larger reach via MotoShare is becoming an interesting new source of income, a helping hand that partly makes up for the loss in turnover from sales of new motorcycles. Hiring at a 'daily premium' for insurance is an attractive option for dealers with motorbikes available for hire. See: https://actie.motoshare.nl/verhuren-dealers/. The curve of the average number of rental days per week in 2020 is steadily rising. MotoShare expects this positive result to continue across the board in the coming months or to grow even faster.

International expansion
Shortly before the outbreak of the pandemic, the platform also went 'live' in France and Spain. Now that it is possible to drive again in these countries, the marketing activities are further increased. MotoShare is fully committed to rapid growth in both markets. In addition to the great need to drive, the economic crisis will also prompt many owners to rent out their motorcycles to third parties to supplement their reduced income.
