Good news for people who want to travel to London by train, this will save an hour of travel time. State Secretary of Infrastructure and Water Management Stientje van Veldhoven on Tuesday signed a treaty for a faster train journey to London in Brussels on behalf of the Netherlands. Belgium, France and the United Kingdom were also present and have also signed for a faster train journey to London. Stientje van Veldhoven signed the agreements on security and border controls. As of this autumn, the security check and passport check will be done in Rotterdam and Amsterdam. This means it is no longer necessary to leave the train for this in Brussels, which saves an hour in travel time.

'We are still living in corona times, but of course we also look ahead. Soon you will travel comfortably, easily and therefore quickly by train from Amsterdam to London. No more hassle with checks and delays in Brussels. A Eurostar train has roughly twice as many seats as an average plane and the CO2 emissions per passenger are considerably lower. This makes the train to London a real sustainable and full-fledged alternative to flying ', said State Secretary Van Veldhoven.

Officially, it was already planned in April that the first direct Eurostar train between Amsterdam and London would start running, this is now the autumn. This was canceled because passenger numbers had fallen sharply due to the consequences of the corona crisis. Therefore, in March, the Eurostar train stopped running between Amsterdam and London. As a result, the test phase of the direct Eurostar connection between Amsterdam and London has also been delayed. Because the corona measures have been relaxed again, travelers will be able to use the Eurostar train between Amsterdam and London on a daily basis from 9 July. Depending on the corona developments, the intention is that this train will run twice a day from Amsterdam to London in August and 3 times a day in the autumn.
