The Ministry of Infrastructure and Water Management reports on their website that the Netherlands will receive a 62 million euro subsidy this year from the European Commission for improving infrastructure in the Netherlands. This amount is divided over several projects.

Overnight places

The Netherlands will receive a subsidy of EUR 11,4 million to create 50 overnight stays for inland vessels. The berths will be located on the banks of the Waal on the Dutch-German border area.

Minister Van Nieuwenhuizen: 'With additional sleeping places along this important international sailing route, inland skippers will have more opportunities to rest properly. With this we can fulfill an important wish of inland shipping. Good news for the skippers.

PRORAIL

ProRail will receive a subsidy of EUR 8 million to improve the railway at Amersfoort. The money will be used to adapt the track on the east side of Amersfoort station to improve the flow of passenger and freight transport.

Brussels gives a subsidy of 8,7 million euros for the work on the Theemsweg route in the Rotterdam port area. The Port of Rotterdam Authority will use the available money to build railway bridges, among other things, for a better connection between the port and the European hinterland. With the bridges, trains are no longer delayed by the Caland Bridge at Rozenburg, which is open several times a day to allow ships to pass.

State Secretary Van Veldhoven: 'Transport by train is clean and safe, which is why we are working with the sector to increase rail freight transport. And we are improving rail in various places in the Netherlands. The Theemsweg route is a direct link with the Betuweroute, the important vein between Rotterdam and the Ruhr area. It is great that the EU is contributing to an even stronger connection. '
