Now that corona outbreaks are increasing in several countries in Europe, governments are looking into what else can be done to reduce this corona problem. In the Netherlands, the government has been busy debating the use of mouth masks in public spaces and on the street. Until now, in the Netherlands we have only been obliged to wear face masks on public transport and on airplanes. The government is investigating whether mouth masks can be made compulsory for each municipality.

Wearing face masks is a huge discussion point and the opinions are very divided. According to the RIVM, there is limited scientific evidence for the effectiveness of mouth masks. They say that if everyone adheres to the rules of the corona, it is not necessary to wear a mask. In many other countries around us it is very 'normal' that you wear a mask on the street, in the shops, in restaurants and in other public spaces. We are one of the few countries where this is not the case.

Belgium

In Belgium, the measures have also been tightened up in recent days because many infections have been added again. Face masks are mandatory there in public transport, airports, shops, shopping centers and other public buildings, such as museums, places of worship, cinemas and libraries. Recently it has also become mandatory to wear masks in busy shopping streets and when traveling in catering establishments. In addition, mouth masks are recommended wherever distance is not possible. In Antwerp, wearing face masks is mandatory everywhere, even on the bicycle. A curfew has also been instituted in Antwerp. Everyone must stay indoors between 23:30 PM and 06:00 AM. Residents of Antwerp are urged not to travel to other parts of Belgium.

Also when entering and moving in restaurants. Furthermore, wherever it is impossible to keep 1,5 meters away. The German government has also announced a new measure, travelers from corona risk areas must be tested for corona when returning to Germany. This measure will probably take effect from next week.
