100% electric driving. Reality or a dream? Zeeuw & Zeeuw figured it out. With a surprising result as a result. No fewer than 28% of the respondents indicate that they will never buy a 100% electric car. Zeeuw & Zeeuw, one of the top 10 largest car dealers in the Netherlands, conducted a survey among 2020 private customers in the period July - August 40.000 to find out whether 100% electric driving is a reality or a dream. With over 3.600 respondents, the representativeness of this survey can be called high.

“With its broad brand portfolio, Zeeuw & Zeeuw definitely has the opportunity to meet changing mobility demand. The expertise in the showrooms is there and the possibilities to experience 100% electric driving is abundantly present at Zeeuw & Zeeuw, says Jan Hofstede, CEO Zeeuw & Zeeuw. Nevertheless, the pressing question arose for us, based on the idea of the ultimate private customer of these 100% electric vehicles. Is it a dream or reality? Ultimately, it is the customer who determines this ”.

The outcome of the survey
“The outcome of the survey was surprising to us, says Marco Ligtelijn, Director Zeeuw & Zeeuw Renault. Certainly the results in terms of motivation to buy, objections and the term of purchase of an electric car give us a different picture than we had in mind. A good wake-up call, showing that governments and manufacturers have so far failed to convince private customers of the need for 100% electric driving. This is a major challenge ”.

The structure of the survey
Zeeuw & Zeeuw has chosen not to include customer views on other powertrains such as PHEV, HEV and hydrogen in the survey. Based on gender and age category, Zeeuw & Zeeuw started research into awareness, considerations, objections and motivation for 100% electric driving. Finally, the expected period in which 100% electric driving is in sight for the respondents.
