Former Member of Parliament (SP) and acting mayor of the municipality of Alkmaar Emile Roemer, will investigate the quality of the driving school sector as an independent advisor to Minister Cora van Nieuwenhuizen (Infrastructure and Water Management). The national government recently announced this. The quality of driving schools has been a topic of discussion in recent years. In recent years there have been many complaints and signs of abuse in the driving school sector.

These are complaints about, for example, fraud in practical and theoretical exams, financial mismanagement and incorrect information to consumers about, for example, the content of training and exams and the success rate. All these kinds of abuses are very detrimental to the consumer, but also to the performance of students in traffic. Ultimately, all these abuses have consequences for our road safety. It is therefore very important that students receive good driver training.

In the near future, Emile Roemer will be researching what is needed in the driving school sector to improve the quality of riding holes. The intention is that Roemer will have a recommendation ready for Minister Cora van Nieuwenhuizen at the beginning of 2021 to eradicate abuses in the driving school sector and to improve quality. Roemer will look into the possibilities of, for example, setting a certification obligation for driving schools.

Roemer is assisted in this by a support group consisting of representatives of the Alliance Together Strong, the Institute for Certification and Examination in the Mobility Industry (IBKI) and the CBR. The Alliantie Samen Sterk wants to create a healthy industry for driving school owners, they want to create an industry that ensures that everyone can do their job well and that everyone who will participate in traffic is trained to be a responsible and safe road user.
