It is becoming more and more difficult for smokers among us, smoking is almost no longer allowed and tobacco is increasingly difficult to obtain. Many companies have an anti-smoking policy. As of 2004 January, the Dutch Railways will also go one step further to ensure that all stations in the Netherlands become smoke-free. It used to be quite normal that you were allowed to smoke on the train, we can no longer imagine that. Since XNUMX, a smoking ban has been in place in trains, station halls, tunnels, elevators and on stairs.

Until October this year, there were special smoking zones at stations, where it was still allowed to smoke. From XNUMX April this year, tobacco and tobacco products will no longer be for sale in the Kiosks and the StationsHuiskamer of NS. Since XNUMX October, all platforms at Dutch train stations have also been made smoke-free by NS and ProRail. All stations in the Netherlands are now smoke-free. As a last step, the NS from XNUMX January with the sale of tobacco and smoking products at all AH to go station shops.

“Lighting up a cigarette on the train has been a thing of the past since 2004. We can no longer even imagine smoking on the train, ”says Anneke de Vries, station director and member of the Board of Directors at NS. “We believe that cigarettes no longer belong in our station shops. We see stopping the sale of tobacco as a social responsibility. In this way we want to contribute to a smoke-free generation. ”
