We can now really write holidays on our stomach for the time being. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs advises on their website not to go on holiday abroad until at least mid-March 2021. Traveling is only allowed if it is strictly necessary. Initially, Mark Rutte had called for not to go on vacation until mid-January, this has now been adjusted to mid-March.

This is because the corona virus is not under control in many countries, but especially in the Netherlands and infections with the virus are still increasing. It is therefore not smart to book a holiday anyway, in the coming months there is no room for pleasure outings, holidays and other unnecessary activities across the border.

There weren't many countries with code yellow on the world map anymore, but now everything is orange or red. The countries that still had code yellow and where we could still go on vacation were Aruba, Bonaire and the Canary Islands. Last weekend there was still a huge crowd at Schiphol, many people still went on holiday. According to various media, this is a great annoyance for the Cabinet and the House of Representatives.

Minister Mark Rutte said on Tuesday in a by it AD broadcasted debate: the impudence of people who, despite the negative advice, go on winter sports or on another holiday is “anti-social”.

Minister van Nieuwenhuizen is investigating whether there is a possibility to introduce a statement in which travelers indicate whether it concerns a necessary trip. This is to prevent people from going on vacation. Various travel organizations have stopped flying holidays because of the negative travel advice. It remains to be seen whether the current hard lock down will have a positive effect on the number of corona infections in our country.
