Schiphol reports on their website that they will be carrying out major maintenance on the Polderbaan from 25 January to 26 April (13 weeks). The runway is not available for air traffic during this period. An area of ​​600.000 square meters will be renovated. 150.000 tons of asphalt is used for the maintenance of the runway and surrounding carriageways. This is done by recycling 60% of the old removed asphalt. 70 kilometers of new cabling will also be installed and 2100 track lamps will be replaced by sustainable LED lamps.

Air Traffic Control the Netherlands (LVNL) uses this maintenance period to replace the Instrument Landing System (ILS) of the Polderbaan. The Instrument Landing System ensures that aircraft are supported to descend at a gradual angle to the runway.
