Ghent had to deal with a lot of sticky snow last Saturday and snowmen were built everywhere. Three people were injured in a spectacular accident on the N49 in Assenede. The car turned over several times and ended up upside down in the canal. The accident happened just before the traffic lights on the N49 at the Stoepestraat in Assenede. There was not much snow, but the winter weather still attracted a large crowd. There is no shortage of snow fun in Flanders. The reopening of the High Fens to tourists on Saturday also went without major problems.

Also no big headlines about last Saturday's snowfall at the Northern neighbors. Since 1956 it has been monitored daily whether there is a snow cover. The snowfall of the past 24 hours has also entered the books, but for many of us it was not the expected thick layer of snow that is necessary for the greatest snow fun. The sleds could not be dragged online last week, but they are already in the storage room today. Slippery conditions may have surprised a few motorists and was also the reason for some traffic accidents.

In the night from Saturday to Sunday, the freezing of wet road sections and ice created dangerous conditions. Locally it can be treacherously slippery, especially in the Eastern part of the country. Yet the thaw has started considerably, there is little or no snow fun to experience on Sunday. In the west the snow has disappeared and the temperatures are well above zero. The coming days will be mild with temperatures of up to 12 degrees.
