Traveling during the spring break may be made nearly impossible this year. The holiday that will take place in Flanders this year from 15 to 21 February is a period that many of us are looking forward to. Well-informed sources indicate that there is little hope that the Consultation Committee will relax the measures. Today, the Consultation Committee must provide as many people as possible with guidance on how to organize their spring break. Prime Minister Alexander De Croo (Open VLD) will discuss the possibilities today. In general, non-essential travel will continue to be discouraged within Europe and there is little hope of foreign travel. The figures do not yet allow to announce easing, but perhaps some perspective is already being offered.

Minister of Education Ben Weyts (N-VA) made an agreement earlier this week with the Flemish education sector about the week before the spring break. There it was decided to close secondary schools a week earlier and to switch to distance learning. Most ski organizations canceled trips until after the mid-term break. De Croo wants a temporary European ban on pleasure travel, which can count on support from most member states. More than 150.000 Belgians traveled during the Christmas holidays. Tourism, therefore, not an essential displacement, and the Consultation Committee wants to avoid that scenario for the spring break.
