The Ghent city council, in consultation with the fairground, decides not to let the Half Lent Fair take place. The corona measures do not allow fairs and fairs. The Halfvastenfoor, which would normally start on Saturday 6 March 2021, marks the start of the fairground season in Ghent. To date (and in all probability for a while) it has been prohibited by ministerial decree to organize fairs and fortresses. That is why the city council has decided not to allow the Halfvastenfoor to take place.

According to Sofie Bracke, Alderman for Economy, an alternative date for the Half-Lent Fair is not easy, because the fairground travelers normally travel from fair to fair. But just like last summer, Ghent want to respond quickly to a changed situation. The City of Ghent, together with the forains, will therefore do everything in its power to organize forts and fairs again safely as soon as legally permitted.

The Halfvastenfoor has a rich tradition. It is a difficult but logical decision not to let the fair go ahead. We are looking forward to coming to Ghent again as soon as it is allowed.
