Almost one in three Dutch people see holiday parks as the ideal setting for a stay in a holiday home. Poor cleaning is the biggest annoyance. This is evident from a survey of holiday parks platform Parkvakanties, holidaymakers will stay in the Netherlands again this year. Despite the current restrictions on holiday parks - swimming pools and catering are closed - many people still specifically opt for accommodation in a holiday park (31 percent).

Self-contained houses in nature (27 percent) and on the coast (26 percent) are the most popular after that. Since the outbreak of the corona virus, the popularity of holiday parks in their own country has increased significantly. In the summer of 2020, the number of Dutch guests at holiday parks was more than 20% higher than the year before.

Zeeland, Limburg and the Veluwe
From the research It also appears that holiday accommodations in Zeeland, Limburg, the seaside resorts on the coast and the Veluwe are the most popular this year. There is clearly less search for holiday parks abroad.

The popularity of the Dutch holiday parks is “not surprising”, says Laurens Taekema van Park holidays. “People just want to go on holiday and then, in the current situation, a holiday home close by is ideal. The parks are usually beautifully situated and there are still plenty of outdoor activities possible. At many parks you can also have meals delivered to your house. We are increasingly discovering how beautiful the Netherlands actually is. ”

Dirty holiday home is the biggest annoyance
The survey also asked about the most important criteria and biggest annoyances when staying in a holiday home. A badly cleaned holiday home is the biggest annoyance for no fewer than seven in ten Dutch people. Bad beds and bad smells or odors in the house complete the top three. 39 percent of the respondents consider a comfortable bed to be an important aspect of a holiday home. Surprisingly enough, a beautiful location (32 percent) and child friendliness (27 percent) follow.
