More than eight in ten Dutch people who want to go on holiday abroad this year are prepared to be vaccinated against Covid-19 if this is made mandatory. Almost three quarters of travelers also think that such a vaccination should become mandatory for everyone who goes on holiday abroad.

This is evident from a survey conducted by review and booking site Zoover among 1275 visitors. With more than 30 million annual visits, more than 3,8 million reviews and more than 15.000 holidays, Zoover is one of the largest holiday sites in the Netherlands. Zoover wanted to use the poll to gauge how high the willingness to vaccinate among Dutch holidaymakers is. This is becoming increasingly topical now that more and more holiday countries are urging the EU to introduce a vaccination passport. Only people who can demonstrate with such a pass that they have been vaccinated against corona should be allowed to travel freely through Europe. That should motivate more people to get vaccinated and make safer travel possible. There will be no such passport for the time being, EU leaders decided last week.

Although there is a lot of resistance to vaccinations against the corona virus, especially on social media, holidaymakers in the Netherlands do not appear to object to it. If this allows them to go on holiday abroad, 81,9% is willing to get an injection. 15,8% of the respondents do not agree. 72,1% of travelers agree that a vaccination should be compulsory when traveling abroad. 25,7 of the respondents disagree.

“I did expect that travelers would show a high willingness to vaccinate, because going on a carefree holiday is important for every holidaymaker. The percentage is also in line with recent research by the RIVM ”, says director Judith Eyck of Zoover. “On the other hand, I am surprised that there is also enormous support for making a vaccination compulsory. I think everyone understands that this is necessary to travel safely. And of course everyone is eager to go on holiday again. ”

Zoover recently published the results of its first Holiday Monitor. This showed that in 2021, just like last year, the Dutch will go on holiday en masse in their own country. A third (34%) of holidaymakers will be looking for destinations in the Netherlands in 2021. Yet many travelers also dare to look across the border carefully. The new survey shows that six out of ten Dutch people still want to go on holiday abroad. Four in ten want to take a plane, more than five in ten go by car and 5 percent choose a different way of traveling.

“Normally, the split between car and plane was 50/50, so we do see a small shift towards car holidays,” says Eyck. "But we also see that many people take the plane back to Spain or Greece as soon as the weather is allowed."

The Holiday Monitor has already shown that travelers are taking the corona measures seriously into account. At 21% of the reviews written since March last year on Zoover terms such as corona, Covid-19, one and a half meters or corona measures occur.
