The Dutch Railways recently announced that they are discontinuing rail catering in the train. Who does not know them, the employees who walk by on the train with coffee, tea and tasty snacks. This service had already been shut down in March due to the consequences of the corona crisis, but is now permanently discontinued. The catering service employees now all work in the various NS stores, such as the Kiosk, Julia's pasta shop, Stationshuiskamer, Rituals and AH2Go. The rail catering has provided food and drinks on the train for 14 years. In order to say goodbye in an appropriate way, the rail caterer uniform will be given a place in the Railway Museum.

Anneke de Vries, Board of Directors NS: “Rail catering was founded at a time when many stations were downright sober. Our rail caterers then played an important role in ensuring that travelers travel in a comfortable and pleasant way. The service has always been well appreciated by travelers. In recent years, NS has invested a lot in facilities at stations, so that passengers can go to the station shops or the Kiosk on the platform for a coffee or something to eat before boarding the train. This was reflected in the turnover, which had been declining for some time. This train service has an important and special place in the history of NS and is therefore given a place in the Railway Museum. The rail caterers are real ambassadors that NS does not want to lose. We are therefore pleased that they will all continue to work with us at a NS shop at the station. ”
