Enforcers from the municipality of Utrecht will enforce on mobile bicycle traffic from Monday 8 February. They will check for driving with a green light, do not make phone calls and text messages on the bicycle and switch on the bicycle lamp when it is dark. The use of the boas provides extra efforts - in addition to the efforts of the police - to improve road safety behavior of cyclists.

Enforcers will be inspecting throughout the city of Utrecht. In doing so, they pay special attention to the busy intersections in the city where many cyclists come. Enforcers can issue a fine if necessary. The municipality also uses posters and social media to make cyclists aware of safe cycling behavior.

Enforcement of the Utrecht boas on mobile bicycle traffic is a national trial. The reason for this is an passed motion in the Lower House to see whether boas can be given more powers. The trial will last six months. The municipality works together with the Ministry of Justice and Security, the police and the Public Prosecution Service.
