It should have been the weekend of the carnival this weekend. Fortunately, the winter prick contributes to alleviating the suffering by offering skating-loving Netherlands the opportunity to tie up their skates for the last time and look for natural ice. After the weekend it is over and softer air arrives. So watch out for slipperiness that the rain will cause on the now frozen surface. Until then, a weekend is just around the corner where you are looking for a quiet place to skate.

It will be a sunny winter weekend where especially the early birds can skate quietly. Several municipalities have faced enormous parking nuisance in recent days. Still, you have to be careful because the thickness of the ice is not equally reliable everywhere. Mayors call on everyone to stay away from those who are not from the area. The advice is local one skating spot to search.

Accidents have been reported across the country due to the skating madness. The police found a body in the water of the Schie along the Kanaalweg in Delft on Friday evening. The victim may have fallen through the ice. The skating fun was short-lived at the special skating location Hofvijver, in the heart of The Hague politics. For safety reasons, skating is not allowed around the Prime Minister's Tower.

White or black Saturday and Sunday?

Everyone wants to enjoy skating, especially on lakes and ponds, but there is also such a thing as a corona virus, risk of contamination and safety. The municipality of Wijdemeren decided on Friday before noon to close four access roads to the skating villages Ankeveen and Loosdrecht in both directions. With a predicted thaw from Sunday, huge skating madness on Saturday is seriously taken into account. Hubert Bruls, chairman of the Security Council, warns that mayors can lock off regions if necessary.

The rules around skating are clear. Tours and competitions are not allowed. Driving in laps is allowed, be it with your own household or with one adult from outside. Distance rules continue to apply, although maintaining it on the ice is no action. Boas will encounter situations where those rules are not followed.
