MyWheels is placing its 1.000ᵉ shared car today. The car was festively unveiled this morning in Groningen and is part of 175 new shared cars that will be used throughout the Netherlands during this period. With the new cars, the national range of MyWheels has grown from 225 to 1.000 cars in a year.

The sharing company is a forerunner in the electric supply of this form of car sharing: 40 percent of the shared cars are electric. MyWheels has the ambition to double the range of shared cars to 2.000 vehicles by the end of the year. The 1.000ᵉ shared car is a milestone in MyWheels' mission, which aims to reduce the number of cars in the Netherlands from 9 million to 1 million by 2030.

Karina Tiekstra, CEO of MyWheels, about the milestone: “With over 100.000 MyWheels users now, we can conclude that shared transport is becoming increasingly popular. We see an increase of 60 percent since last year in the number of journeys made with MyWheels, partly due to the corona measures. The shared cars not only contribute to making transport more sustainable, but also to a better street scene and the social connection between car-sharing residents of the neighborhood. Every shared car means 11 fewer privately owned cars. ”

Sustainable mission

MyWheels shared cars save more than 8,5 million kg of CO2 emissions annually. That equates to 425.000 trees. In addition, each shared car means 11 fewer private cars. With 11.000 fewer cars on the street, more than 48 football fields in parking space will be saved. These figures, based on research by knowledge platform CROW, contribute to the sustainable mission of MyWheels.

“Our goal is to reduce CO2 emissions from vehicles by having fewer cars on the road. We do this by converting car ownership into car use. Car sharers drive fewer kilometers in a car, which also results in less congestion and lower parking pressure in busy cities, " explains Karina Tiekstra, CEO of MyWheels.
