The RAI Association is pleased that from now on consumers can visit showrooms and shops by appointment again under strict conditions. This means that the live sales of bicycles, motorcycles, scooters and cars can start again. In recent months, they have been urging the government to allow sales by appointment in the showroom.

Steven van Eijck, general chairman of the RAI Association, calls the cabinet decision sensible and a workable first step towards a complete reopening of the retail trade. After all, good advice and good information are crucial when choosing a means of transport. 'And that is perfectly possible in a showroom or shop by appointment within a predetermined period of time.' The RAI Association also assumes that the delivery of a (new) passenger car or motorcycle can from now on also be done by appointment at the showroom.

Expert information is crucial

Van Eijck emphasizes the importance of expert information in the delivery of many advanced mobility products. 'Modern cars are full of driver assistance and safety-enhancing (ADAS) systems that require extensive explanation. The same applies to consumers buying an electric car for the first time. That also requires the necessary explanation by the seller in order to guarantee safe use. '
