Those who do not want to come to Ghent by car have many options. You can easily reach the center of Ghent from the stations Sint-Pieters and Dampoort. Or take a tram or bus from De Lijn to the center, which is even free at Shop-op Zondag. From Gent-Sint-Pieters station you have a tram to the center every 5 minutes during rush hour. Seven minutes later you are on the spot. From Gent-Dampoort station it is barely 1 kilometer to the city center. So you can even walk.
If you drive a bicycle, moped, motorcycle, car or other vehicle through a pedestrian street between 11 a.m. and 18 p.m., you risk a fine of 58 euros.

We have listed mobility and the main conditions for you. You can only access the counters of the Ghent Mobility Company Appointment attend. The shuttle service between the park and ride Weba / Decathlon and the center and between the park and ride Watersportbaan and the center run with a normal service. Just like on public transport, a mouth mask is mandatory. The hiking bus runs again from Monday to Saturday, and also on shopping Sundays. Every 11 minutes from 23 a.m. to 25 p.m. A mouth mask is also mandatory in the Wandelbus. Shared cars, shared bicycles and scooters are considered by the city

Ghent as a means of transport and are therefore not prohibited. Taxis are allowed to transport customers. A minimum distance of 1,5 meters between each person must be maintained. The number of people that can be transported therefore varies depending on the type of vehicle. A family is allowed in one taxi, the distance regulation does not apply here. The same is true for charpoontake

pay attention to the LEZ

Are you coming by car? Park your car for free at a P + R or park in the street. Note: first check whether your vehicle is allowed to enter the low-emission zone (LEZ). All P + Rs are located on the outskirts of the city, outside the low emission zone. From there you can easily get to the center with a tram, bus, (shared) bicycle or free shuttle bus. There is a free shuttle bus between the center and 2 park-and-rides: P + R Weba / Decathlon and P + R Watersportbaan. With this you will quickly be in the city and back to your car. You can pay for parking in a parking garage in the center. Parking Gent South is located outside the LEZ. Do you park on the street? The further from the center, the cheaper your parking space.

walking in Ghent

Ghent city center is largely car-free. A number of busy shopping and catering streets are pedestrian streets. Only pedestrians are allowed in the busiest shopping, walking and catering streets between 11 am and 18 pm. If you drive a bicycle, moped, motorcycle, car or other vehicle through a pedestrian street between 11 a.m. and 18 p.m., you risk a fine of 58 euros. You are only allowed to walk through the pedestrian streets with a wheelchair or mobility scooter.

They are pedestrians streets and not entire areas, so that with a valid permit you can always get close to your destination with a car in an emergency. The Graslei will also be made traffic-free, but only during the summer months, from June to September (also daily from 11 am to 18 pm). Veldstraat is not a pedestrian street because a busy tram line runs through it.
