The corona crisis has far-reaching consequences for various industries, including the automotive industry. The recurring lockdown and therefore the closed showrooms do not do much good for car sales in our country. It remains to be seen whether the opening of the showrooms by appointment last Wednesday will improve the automotive industry. In February this year, 21.862 new passenger cars were registered in our country, according to the official figures from the industry organization BOVAG, RDC and RAI Association.

This amounts to a decrease of no less than 26,3 percent compared to the same month last year. A total of 56.933 new passenger cars were registered this year in January and February. That equates to almost 23 percent fewer registrations than in January and February last year. Last year, 73.681 passenger cars were registered in January and February.

The expectation of RAI Association and BOVAG are that about 400.000 new cars will be registered this year. It remains to be seen, of course, what the corona crisis will do and whether this expectation will come true. It is very uncertain and unpredictable. The most registered car brands in the top 5 last month were Kia with 8,3 percent market share, Peugeot with 8 percent market share, Volkswagen with 7,4 percent market share, Toyota with 7,1 percent market share, and Ford with 6,5 percent market share. .

The most registered car models in the top 5 last month were the Ford Fiesta with 2,9 percent market share, KIA Picanto with 2,7 percent market share, Volvo XC40 with 2,7 percent market share, Toyota Aygo with 2,5 percent market share and Opel Corsa. with 2,5 percent market share.
