Airline company Lufthansa and Deutsche Bahn recently presented their plans for a joint product offensive in Frankfurt. The Lufthansa Express Rail network is being expanded to five cities. Extra fast Sprinter trains will also run to Frankfurt Airport for the first time from December. With the expansion of their cooperation, Lufthansa and Deutsche Bahn are setting a new standard in the environmentally friendly networking of transport modes, according to their own website.

Larger network and new, extra fast sprinters

Deutsche Bahn and Lufthansa already offer 134 trains from 17 German cities to Frankfurt Airport per day. In the second half of 2021, five more cities will be added. From July it will be possible for the first time to travel with Lufthansa Express Rail to Frankfurt Airport from Hamburg and Munich, and from December also from Berlin, Bremen and Münster. In addition, the new Sprinter connections will be celebrating their premiere from December. The train journey between Munich and Cologne will be shortened to less than four hours. Direct trains run to and from Munich and Nuremberg twice a day to Frankfurt Airport in three and two hours respectively, with no intermediate stops. This is half an hour faster than before, which offers an excellent transfer to Lufthansa flights.

More comfort and more flexible booking

All the proven features of the Lufthansa Express Rail program, such as reserved seats on the train, connection security, mileage credit for the train journey and first class travel and access to the DB lounges for business and first class customers are of course still available. More services will be added in the future. Express Rail trains will be easier to spot thanks to a common DB-LH brand on many trainsets. The LH information content is also accessible in the train via the free Wi-Fi. If you book Business or First Class, you can enjoy the DB Premium Service in 1st class and receive a free gastronomic offer at your seat.

Transporting luggage is also becoming easier: Deutsche Bahn prefers to use the latest generation of trains with large luggage compartments. Once traffic at the airports picks up again, Lufthansa Express Rail customers will be able to access the Fastlane at the security checkpoint. The suitcases of Express Rail customers are given priority when landing at Frankfurt Airport. Booking Lufthansa Express Rail tickets becomes more flexible. From April 2021, the Express trains can be booked as long as the corresponding connecting flight is bookable. It's worth booking early as it can make tickets cheaper. A special highlight this year is that Miles & More customers receive double status miles on all Lufthansa Express Rail journeys made by train and plane.
