By 2025, the fleets of 37 Dutch employers - united in the Anders Reizen coalition - must be completely fossil-free. That is what the CEOs have promised with a signed statement. In the coming years, the companies will introduce 23.000 passenger cars without CO2 emissions.

The initiative contributes to the goal of halving half of business CO2030 emissions by 2 compared to 2016. The companies will report on progress annually and will also share their best practices. The overarching goals of Anders Reizen were included in the Climate Agreement in 2019. With a frontrunner policy of ten effective measures, the coalition provides practical tools for companies to achieve the reduction target.

See with new eyes

Mobility policy is being viewed with new eyes not only in the Netherlands, but worldwide. COVID accelerates a trend that has been set in motion for some time: cleaner, less and more flexible travel by employees. Director of the Anders Reizen coalition, Hugo Houppermans explains: “A new balance between working from home and office work creates new dilemmas for employers. New ways of working together require a redefinition of the way of working and of traveling. The time has come to take further steps towards a sustainable mobility policy. ”

Less and less barriers

Employers struggle with the term of their lease contracts. “The duration does not have to be a problem,” says Houppermans. “As a company you can conclude shorter lease contracts for fossil cars without additional costs. That way, you can switch more quickly. The electric car market is developing rapidly. ” Not only the lease contracts sometimes form a barrier; The range of electric cars is also a topic of discussion. Houppermans: “The range has improved considerably and the range is much larger. In addition, the business case is becoming more interesting. The operational costs of electric cars can already be lower than the fossil car. My advice is to map this out quickly for your organization. ”

500.000 employees

The members of Anders Reizen have been working on making their business mobility more sustainable since 2015. The coalition has 70 organizations with a total size of 500.000 employees and new members are welcomed. The signatories of the declaration 'fossil-free vehicle fleet by 2025' include companies that are now joining faster and companies that are almost there, such as Royal HaskoningDHV, Eneco, Leaseplan and de Volksbank. The most important insights from the transition to a fossil-free vehicle fleet, the flexibility and phasing out of the vehicle fleet will soon be bundled in a knowledge guide. This knowledge guide is published together with Stichting Natuur & Milieu and can be found via www.andersreizen.nu.
