The vaccination location of the GGD at Rotterdam The Hague Airport will close temporarily next week. The GGD has planned too few appointments for corona pricks to keep the location open, says a spokeswoman for GGD Rotterdam-Rijnmond. “This has to do with the situation around AstraZeneca,” she explains.

Six more vaccination locations will remain open in the region, including the XL location in the Van Nelle factory. A new location opened in Schiedam on Thursday. Residents can also get a corona pick from the former cruise ship SS Rotterdam and from sports centers in Capelle aan den IJssel, Spijkenisse and Sommelsdijk.

Injecting the corona vaccine from AstraZeneca has come to a complete standstill at the GGD. The cabinet decided last Friday that the vaccine in question could only be administered to people over 60 until further notice because of very rare side effects, which mainly occur in younger people. The Health Council advises on Thursday evening on how to proceed.

The GGDs vaccinate people who work in long-term care with the relevant vaccine. Most of them are under the age of 60. To prevent waste, the minority over the age of 60 is now also temporarily not pinned by the GGDs. GPs still administer the AstraZeneca vaccine.

The vaccination site at the airport will initially remain closed for a week. The GGD has not yet taken a decision about the period after that.
