The Federal Council of Ministers has approved a list of requirements it imposes on NMBS. More early and late trains, more trips during the weekend and a minimal reception at every station. In a document that The morning could see, the Vivaldi government is laying down an initial framework within which negotiations will continue in the coming months. This framework provides a clear direction. For example, the NMBS must allow more trains to run, including at early and late hours. The number of trains must also increase during the weekends.

The key question is of course how high the bar will be set. The intention is in any case that stations are divided into categories. Requirements will be imposed per category in terms of human presence, supply and accessibility. The NMBS is also held responsible for safety in the stations.

Minister Gilkinet wants to attract more people to the railway, so the service must be improved. Not only via extra trains, it says, but also via a better connection to other means of transport, such as the bicycle.
