Greece wants to get rid of the quarantine obligation for tourists from the European Union. They now have to be in self-isolation for another week after arrival. That measure should lapse next Monday, Greek media reports.
Holidaymakers from European countries will soon have to meet a number of conditions. They must be vaccinated against the coronavirus or show a negative corona test result. The authorities also want to test travelers on a random basis. Experts have yet to give the green light to the Greek government's plan. That could happen Friday.
Tourism is an important sector for the Greek economy. The authorities actually planned to relax measures for foreign visitors on May 14, but that date is now being brought forward. Tourists from the United States, Israel, the United Kingdom, Serbia and the United Arab Emirates will soon no longer have to deal with the mandatory self-isolation after arrival.
