Because the Minder Mobielen Centrale cannot bring wheelchair users to the vaccination center in Tielt, it offers Pittem adapted taxi transport. According to the Flemish newspaper Het Nieuwsblad, anyone in Pittem who wants to use it can collect a 5 euro taxi voucher as a financial contribution from the town hall. So far, only 16 of the more than 1.000 residents called up have made use of the offered transport.

Vaccination is voluntary and free for every citizen. Getting vaccinated can prevent you from becoming seriously ill and save lives. So it is very important to get vaccinated. Not just for yourself, but also for each other! Not everyone can be vaccinated at the same time. This is done in different stages, depending on the number of doses available. For the moment, residents and personnel are vaccinated in residential care centers.

opposition party not positive

The opposition party NieuwPittemEgem does not think this is a good idea. Because according to them they are the least mobile people who do not get to the vaccination center, they may not be able to get to the town hall. "By the way, can we not offer completely free transport to this very limited group?" says opposition leader Christophe Vancoillie. Het Nieuwsblad further writes that, according to Mayor Ivan Delaere (CD&V), a family member or acquaintance may also come and collect the voucher and that the decision not to offer this transport for free has come at Midwest level. This is in order not to create an auction of support resources between the municipalities.
