The official sale of the complete range of heavy-duty electric Volvo trucks will start this year. According to Volvo Trucks, the time is right for a rapid increase in the number of electric vehicles in heavier road transport. These positive outlook are based on the fact that Volvo's electric trucks can handle a wide variety of transportation needs. In the near future, in the EU, for example, almost half of all transport can be carried out by electric trucks.

Major national and international carriers show a lot of interest in electric vehicles. This is being stimulated by the government that wants to make inner cities free of diesel trucks, ambitious climate goals of transporters themselves, but also by consumer demand for CO2-free and cleaner transports.

“More and more transport companies are realizing that they now have to start with electric vehicles, both from an environmental perspective and because of competition and because more and more of their customers are demanding sustainable transports. With our extensive product range, it is feasible for transport companies to opt for electric, ”says Roger Almo, CEO of Volvo Trucks.

Covers almost half of the transport needs in the EU
The new trucks deliver greater payload, more powerful powertrains and a range of up to 300 km (at a GCW of 40 tonnes). The range can increase with lighter loads. Volvo Trucks' electric product offering can thus cover about 45% of all current transports in Europe. * Different planning and sometimes different configuration makes more possible and makes an important contribution to reducing the climate impact of road transport: according to official statistics responsible for about 6% of the total CO2emissions in the EU.

“There are a lot of possibilities to have the transport by truck electrically run in Europe and in other parts of the world in the very near future,” says Roger Alm. “To prove this, we have set an ambitious goal that by 2030 half of our turnover should be generated by electric trucks. And these three new heavy-duty trucks that we are now introducing are a huge step towards achieving this goal. ”

* According to Eurostat statistics from 2018 for road freight transport, 45% of all freight transport in Europe travels less than 300 km per day.
