The Dutch Railways expects to welcome more travelers in the near future. This is due to the relaxation announced by the Cabinet. More trains will be deployed from May and by mid-June the Dutch Railways hopes to be back at 98 percent use of trains. At the moment, 90 percent of the total number of trains is operated, and there are only 35 percent of the normal number of passengers. The routes where more passengers are expected to be the first, additional trains will be used. These are the routes between Rotterdam and Utrecht, Uitgeest - Amsterdam - Utrecht - Veenendaal Center, Amsterdam - Rotterdam, The Hague - Utrecht and Utrecht - Amersfoort.

Marjan Rintel, CEO of NS: “We want nothing more than to keep the Netherlands accessible and to bring travelers to their destination. With the announced relaxation of the corona rules and the Opening Plan presented by the cabinet in hand, we are preparing step by step for a normal timetable. So that the moment the Netherlands takes the train again, NS can welcome her with open arms. ”

De NS wants to have all their trains running again on June 14, with the exception of the night network and commuter trains. This will be looked at at a later date. Several trains that are currently running are shorter than usual, because of course there are also far fewer travelers. If passenger numbers increase again, trains will be made longer by NS where necessary and where possible. As the weather gets busier on the train, it will occur more often that travelers will have to sit next to each other again. This is inevitable and will take some getting used to. Everyone still has to wear a face mask.
