The Hasselt-Maastricht express tram will run to Hasselt station, Flemish minister Lydia Peeters assures. The agreement that the route from the Hasselt-Maastricht high-speed tram to the train station in Hasselt will be fulfilled. This is what Flemish Minister for Mobility Lydia Peeters (Open VLD) said in Start Je Dag this morning. The city of Hasselt prefers to have the final stop 300 meters away and is also thinking of a tram bus instead of a real tram.

Flanders and De Lijn are realizing a fast tram connection between Hasselt and Maastricht. The tram route between Hasselt Station and Maastricht Mosae Forum has a length of approximately 30 kilometers, of which 27 km on Flemish territory. The bus currently takes you from Hasselt to Maastricht in about 70 minutes. It will soon take you about 30 minutes by tram. With the tram you travel twice as fast. The tram will run every half hour on working days and on Saturdays, every hour on Sundays. The tram runs in the city between 10 and 35 km / h. Outside the city, this is a maximum of 100 km / h. The tram should be operational by the end of 2023. In the course of 2024, the tram line following De Lijn can then be fully put into operation.

According to the VRT news service, the anxiety has grown over the tram line in Maastricht, because Hasselt wants to change the plans for the route and there was also talk of a tram bus instead of a regular tram. Maastricht and Dutch Limburg had also sent a letter about this to the Flemish Minister of Mobility, Lydia Peeters. But in Start Je Dag, Peeters emphasized that the agreements made with Maastricht will be complied with and that Hasselt station will remain the final stop. “It will be a route between Mosa Forum in Maastricht and Hasselt station. ”
