It is unnecessary to oblige all driving test candidates with autism to take a driving test, the Health Council wrote in a recommendation to the Minister of Infrastructure and Water Management. The council advises to only have the driving test taken if the mandatory medical examination gives reason to do so

Now people with a diagnosis of autism spectrum disorder (ASD) who want to apply for a driver's license for the first time must first undergo a medical examination. They must also take a driving test at the CBR. According to the Health Council, about three-quarters of the candidates with autism are declared fit for driving after inspection and test. Of the candidates who turn out to be unfit, or fit to drive under certain conditions, in most cases it is not the driving test, but the medical examination that is decisive.

“The council therefore advises to drop the mandatory driving test for all driving test candidates with ASD and to let the CBR only take the test if the medical examination gives reason to do so,” said the advisory body.
