King Willem-Alexander, Queen Máxima and the princesses Amalia, Alexia and Ariane arrived in Eindhoven on Tuesday morning to celebrate King's Day. A number of activities await De Oranjes there. Due to corona, there is no audience at the king's 54th birthday.
The activities have been adjusted due to the corona virus. However, the day is currently not celebrated at home but in Eindhoven, on the grounds of the Tech Campus. The king and his family arrived there at around 11.00 a.m. in a caravan of old and new cars. The king rode with Amalia in the lead in an old DAF that the royal family used for years during holidays in Italy. The family will then enjoy performances, a regional quiz and a talk show.
Upon arrival, the Oranges were awaited by the Eindhoven mayor John Jorritsma. The queen and the princesses were given a bunch of felt flowers. Jorritsma welcomed the family and congratulated the king. The king and his family then started talking to people remotely via a screen.
The Streamers
On campus they were treated to a concert by some members of the group The Streamers. Paul de Munnik, Guus Meeuwis, Thomas Acda and Roel van Velzen and Nick & Simon, among others, sang the song Our House by Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young for the family. Guus Meeuwis congratulated the king. The king thanked for the song and said he was looking forward to the concert that the group will give later Tuesday.
The Oranges travel back to The Hague in the afternoon, where they attend the rehearsal of The Streamers' performance at Paleis Noordeinde. The band will give a live stream concert on Tuesday evening from the square near the Royal Stables.
National Toast
King's Day will be closed with a National Toast, just like last year. The king cooperates with that moment of toast. It is not yet known whether other members of the royal family, who raised the glass via a screen last year, can be seen. It is the second year in a row that King's Day is celebrated in an adapted form. Last year, the national holiday was renamed 'Housing Day' and digital festivities took place. Willem-Alexander and his family attended them from their home, Paleis Huis ten Bosch.
It is Willem-Alexander's eighth King's Day, which has been celebrated on April 2014 since 27.
