Safe Traffic Netherlands starts a new campaign: An experienced driver can avoid risks. Our country is really a cycling country, we take our children to school with it, take it to work and do it for the hobby. The E-bike is also extremely popular and more and more people are buying it. Unfortunately, cyclists are vulnerable and in our country they are the most often victims of a fatal road accident. This is evident from figures from Statistics Netherlands, which were recently announced. Why is it actually not mandatory to wear a bicycle helmet in our country? The Institute for Road Safety Research (SWOV) reports on their website that foreign research shows that in an accident cyclists with a helmet have about 60% less risk of serious head and brain injury, and about 70% less risk of fatal head and brain injury, than cyclists without helmets.

Safe Traffic Netherlands start with the new campaign: An experienced rider can avoid risks to promote and normalize the voluntary use of a bicycle helmet among cyclists. Many people are unaware of the risk of brain injury in a bicycle accident. Wearing a bicycle helmet has many advantages, such as: it reduces the chance of serious injury in a collision or fall by 60%. Cyclists with a helmet have a 70% lower risk of fatal head or brain injury than cyclists who do not wear a helmet. If everyone wears a bicycle helmet, there are an estimated 85 road fatalities and 2500-2600 fewer serious road injuries per year. It is estimated that on an annual basis there are 45-50 road deaths and 900 serious road injuries fewer when people over 70 wear a bicycle helmet.
