The travel sector is still having a hard time, our government's travel advice not to travel abroad is still in force, hopefully more clarity about this soon. However, 'test holidays' have recently been started, these test trips are organized by travel organizations with the support of the ANVR and the government. The purpose of these 'test trips' is to test in practice whether the measures and protocols drawn up by the travel industry make safe and responsible travel possible.

Travel organization TUI recently organized a 'test trip' together with Corendon. Recently, a group of 180 Dutch people left for Gran Canaria for a 'test holiday'. The first reports are very positive, according to travel organization TUI, people really experience it as a holiday. They can come and go wherever they want and are quickly used to local measures, such as a regular temperature check and wearing a mouth mask when you move, even outside. They like to take these conditions for granted in order to enjoy a holiday again.

“People are still a bit reluctant to book. Certainly also because of the travel advice from the Dutch government not to travel abroad at least until mid-May. But as soon as there is more clarity about this (expected during the press conference on May 11th), we expect a wave of last minute bookings. A unified EU corona certificate can certainly help restore freedom of travel. This allows the government to lay an important basis for travel in the summer. As long as not everyone is vaccinated, testing is a second important building block for a safe holiday ”,

Travel organization TUI tells us that there is great interest in a (sun) holiday next summer. This is apparent from the enormous interest in the 'test trips' alone. But they also see it in the search behavior on their website and the information obtained from their travel agencies. People are still a bit hesitant with books. They expect that as soon as there is more clarity from the government about traveling abroad, there will be a wave of last minute bookings.

Tui also thinks that a unified EU corona certificate can certainly help to restore freedom of travel. In this way, the government can lay an important basis for travel in the summer. Last week it became known that the 'Digital Green Certificate' (vaccination certificate) has been approved by the European Union. Outgoing minister Hugo de Jonge wrote in a letter to parliament that the aim is to reach a decision in June, with a transition period of six weeks for the national implementation of the Digital Green Certificate.
