Since the Ministry of Foreign Affairs changed the color code of a number of countries from orange to yellow or green, more holidays have been booked abroad again. Recently, TUI told us that most bookings are to yellow countries such as Spain, the Balearic Islands, Curacao and Aruba. Yet many Dutch people do not dare to do it yet and prefer to book a camping site or holiday home in their own country. It is of course also very uncertain, we do not know at all whether countries will suddenly go orange or red again because the number of corona infections in a country increases. And that we may therefore be able to write the booked holiday on our stomach. This is something that many people do not want to risk and therefore choose a 'safer' alternative, a holiday in their own country.

We can also go on holiday in the Netherlands, for example, we can go to a campsite or for people who prefer a more luxurious holiday home. Now, research from the Consumers Association that many providers of a holiday home use very unclear prices, as a result of which a house is ultimately more expensive than the consumer had expected. At first the holiday home seems to have a nice low price, but eventually all kinds of costs are added. These are costs such as reservation costs, tourist tax, 'compulsory' bed linen and final cleaning. This appears to be the case at no fewer than eleven of the sixteen companies with holiday homes surveyed. This makes some holiday homes at the bottom of the line about 160 euros more expensive.

“Very customer-unfriendly, companies mirror prices far too favorably. As a result, consumers do not know where they stand and it is much too difficult for them to compare prices with each other. Moreover, it is also against the law, because it obliges providers to include the fixed unavoidable costs in the first price they show ”.
