After a very long debate, the Senate last night approved the bills for the quarantine obligation and the corona admission tickets. The House of Representatives previously approved these laws in May. The laws go into effect in early June. The temporary corona measures law has also been extended by three months until September 1 this year. The temporary use of tickets would make it possible to relax measures in certain sectors more quickly than would be possible according to the epidemiological situation. The corona tickets are temporarily used from step 3 in our government's opening plan to increase the maximum number of visitors allowed.

This concerns, for example, audiences at professional sports competitions, exploitation of cultural institutions such as theaters, cinemas and in catering establishments for dining out. From step 4 in our opening plan overheid it would be possible to let go of the meter and a half standard with admission tickets. The Open Netherlands Foundation is currently working on expanding test capacity throughout the Netherlands. Visitors can have themselves tested and use the CoronaCheck app free of charge. In the long term, a vaccination certificate or proof of recovery can also be used as a corona access card. This requires separate approval from the House of Representatives.

“With mandatory quarantine for travelers, we stop the spread of virus variants that travelers take from very high-risk areas. With the Corona Admission Tickets Act, we make it possible for cultural institutions, catering establishments and festivals to return to 'the old normal' as quickly as possible. That is an important step for culture makers, entrepreneurs and festival goers. What we have been craving for so long is now getting closer. ”

The bill on quarantine obligation has also been passed by the Senate. The quarantine obligation is one of the measures the cabinet is taking to combat the risk of the virus spreading and the arrival of new virus mutations in our country. Under the quarantine obligation, travelers from designated very high-risk areas are required to be in quarantine for ten days. After five days, people can have themselves tested if they have no complaints that could indicate a corona infection. If this test is negative, the quarantine can be closed. If travelers cannot take a negative test, the quarantine lasts a maximum of ten days if there are no complaints. When coming to the Netherlands, travelers must have a statement with them stating travel and contact details. Violation of the quarantine obligation can lead to a fine.
