Train traffic in almost the entire country has come to a standstill due to a malfunction of a telephone system. This has consequences for the operation of signals and switches, NS reports. A spokeswoman for the carrier said nothing more is known about the cause of the outage. The NS, Arriva and Keolis advise travelers to postpone travel until a later moment. The outage was reported around 14.20:XNUMX p.m., it is not yet known how long it will take to be resolved. Trains with travelers who were already on their way did not suddenly stop due to the malfunction. “All trains continue to a platform,” said a spokesperson for NS.

"It will then take a long time for everything to start up, which is a big puzzle, so travelers will be affected by the malfunction for a long time."

Rest of the day

A spokesperson for rail manager ProRail says that due to a nationwide failure with the telephone system, train traffic controllers are unable to communicate with the drivers of transport operators. “That is essential for trains to run, so we have decided to shut down a large part of the country.”

According to ProRail, the provider Mobirail has been scaled up to a maximum capacity in order to discover the fault. As soon as this has been resolved, the ProRail spokesperson expects that passengers will be affected by the disruption for the rest of the day.

ProRail advises travelers to check the app to see which journey is possible. According to NS, there will be no trains until at least 16.00 p.m. and therefore recommends postponing the journey if possible.
